John 12:24-25 (NIV 1984)
24 I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds. 25 The man who loves his life will lose it, while the man who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.
Have we really died to this world? What in this world are we really hanging on to? In my case I hang on to a few things with the illusion that certain things I can not let go of nor can I live without. One is technology. Regularly I have to check and ensure that it doesn't take over my heart. I have others I have to die to as well.
We all have those things. For some it is bitterness and unforgiveness. Others it is captured by lust. Or control. Or power and position, looks, clothes, vehicles, pleasure, or being the under dog. Others it is freedom to choose. Or fear, worry or... We all have something that is way to precious, way to secretive and something we have hidden in the depths of our soul that we will not surrender and die to. We justify it well. But it needs to be put to death so we can truly live. Really live. Oh God show us the lies we have believed in so in dying to these things, we have truly live.
