Ignore or Fearful?

on .

Genesis 3:1 (NASB)
1 Now the serpent was more crafty than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Indeed, has God said, ‘You shall not eat from any tree of the garden’?”

Do we think Satan is any less crafty and sly today than he was back then? Are we any less susceptible to temptation than Adam and Eve? Not that we need to see Satan tempting us but to ignore him completely and not consider even a little of what he throws our way. Now that is not very smart on our part. He still is alive and well and is a roaring lion seeking people who are either afraid of him or people who ignore him. Both are not how we should think. 1 John 4:4 (NASB)
"4 You are from God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world." And then these verses - James 4:7-8 (NASB) "7 Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. 8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded."

Recognize temptation as it comes to us that it might be more than our sinful nature but that Satan might be seeking to lead us astray. Yet we need to know how great is our God! He will deliver us!

Come and Have Your Thirst Quenched

on .

Revelation 22:17 (NLT)

17 The Spirit and the bride say, “Come.” Let anyone who hears this say, “Come.” Let anyone who is thirsty come. Let anyone who desires drink freely from the water of life.

What an invite! No demands. No commands. None of the "If you are good enough, come." Or "If you do... Come!" Just "If you are thirsty... Come! He , Jesus, WILL satisfy and quench the thirst.

Rest but Not Being Lazy

on .

Revelation 19:20 (NLT)
20 And the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who did mighty miracles on behalf of the beast—miracles that deceived all who had accepted the mark of the beast and who worshiped his statue. Both the beast and his false prophet were thrown alive into the fiery lake of burning sulfur.

Deception and lying and false truths are marks of the enemy. We do fight a war. A war we need to be aware of. We know that in Christ we can rest and out our trust. But that doesn't mean we need to let down our mental and spiritual guard. After all the enemy does prowl like a roaring lion seeking to deceive and through deception lead us into bondage. Faith in Jesus but not allowing our minds to go soft. We need to be reminded often of what God has done for us. Guarding our minds with truth.

Searching for Life

on .

Revelation 12:11 (NIV)
11 They overcame him
by the blood of the Lamb
and by the word of their testimony;
they did not love their lives so much
as to shrink from death.

Love for life keeps us serving ourselves. Only when we loose our life for him do we ever fully get it. Even when we have to face death. And are ok with death. Somehow in the world we have the unarguable right to life forever and that also means here. Whether we are sick and face death by sickness or whether we face death by "sword", at the hand of another, if life is in his hands, then shrink back we should not. Life is walking one step in front of the other. No matter what lays ahead of us. Knowing that God holds our hands and our life.

Self deceptions

on .

Revelation 3:17(NLT)
17 You say, ‘I am rich. I have everything I want. I don’t need a thing!’ And you don’t realize that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked.

How quickly we can go from needing God and walking in step with him to the palace of having it all. Yet Jesus calls us back to surrender to him. We can have the money, the house, the job, the right place to live. But what is life if we don't have Jesus?
