For Us - Not Against Us

on .

Hebrews 5:1-2 (NIV 1984)
1 Every high priest is selected from among men and is appointed to represent them in matters related to God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins. 2 He is able to deal gently with those who are ignorant and are going astray, since he himself is subject to weakness.

High priests represent the people. Defenders of people not judges. Jesus is our high priest. He was appointed to represent us before God. Not to tear us down. He is on our side.

Our Sight

on .

1 Kings 17:24 (NIV 1984)

24 Then the woman said to Elijah, “Now I know that you are a man of God and that the word of the Lord from your mouth is the truth.”

She already had an endless supply of oil and flour. Why now, with her son coming back to life, dies she decide to believe that Elijah has done a miracle and that he is from God? Was not the like and flour miraculous? Our sight is sometimes wacked. It is amazing what we consider to see and what we don't.

Faith of Repeat Requests

on .

1 Kings 17:21 (NIV 1984)
21 Then he stretched himself out on the boy three times and cried to the Lord, “O Lord my God, let this boy’s life return to him!”

Why did Elijah have to pray 3 times before God healed? Why not the first time? Persistence in prayer. That is part of what we do. Asking more than once, doesn't demonstrate a lack of faith, it shows we do have faith.

When God does not answer and I come back to pray again and again, my faith is greater than if God answers the first and every time I ask. I know he can and could and so I keep asking. Believing he might choose this time to answer.

Who else but You and You Alone!

on .

2 Chronicles 14:11 (NIV 1984)
11 Then Asa called to the Lord his God and said, “Lord, there is no one like you to help the powerless against the mighty. Help us, O Lord our God, for we rely on you, and in your name we have come against this vast army. O Lord, you are our God; do not let man prevail against you.”

That is still true today - there is no one like our God to help the powerless. Yet how often we turn to our own ways, our own devices and trust in ourselves or others to help us through. God, you empower us. You save us. We will declare your glory. Enable us to walk with you and to see your mighty had at work. Our eyes are upon you.

Looking Short Sighted

Proverbs 24:19-20 (NIV 1984)
19 Do not fret because of evil men
or be envious of the wicked,
20 for the evil man has no future hope,
and the lamp of the wicked will be snuffed out.

Way to easy to be envious of the success of wicked. There are blessed wicked people. There just is. Rejoice in what we have not what others have, for their "big" blessing may be all they have - ever.
